Client goal:
Our clients, having built a beautiful shake-sided home in the tradition of Martha's Vineyard sought to enhance the character of the property with New England-style gardens and spacious lawns. They provided Rooks with many photographs that helped solidify the design intent.

Rooks solution:
Large sweeps of perennials, shrubs and ornamental grasses were planted to soften the landscape, blend into the natural setting and highlight existing majestic old trees. A large pond was constructed in a low lying area to create a focal point and huge boulders were strategically placed to provide a sunning area for turtles and other wildlife. These gardens, glorious year round, are particularly stunning in late fall when the subtle hues of the season and wonderful textures blend to create a beautiful palette.

Client goal:
This house was already surrounded by lovely hills covered with native wildflowers and farmer's hedge rows. The plan was to enhance and harmonize what nature and time had created. In addition, the young family desired a generous lawn to accommodate sports and entertaining.

Rooks' solution:
A wall was constructed incorporating the same stone found on the house, creating a raised entry terrace. The back patio, framed by a low-seating wall accommodates the family and invites everyone to enjoy the pastoral views.

Client goal:
Our client is an architect and envisioned the home surrounded by wildflowers. They wanted to combine old fashioned foundation plantings with native prairie.

Rooks' solution:
Rooks introduced a selection of cottage-style perennials to complement flowering shrubbery. Expansive wildflower meadows and sweeps of ornamental grasses create gentle curves that embrace the home and invite birds into the landscape. The lawn serves to unify the house in this suburban neighborhood and beckons the family to stroll through the property.

Client's goal:
Our client wanted to enhance their Victorian home with exuberant and lush gardens. Additionally, they asked Rooks to creatively address a low-lying and continually wet area of their property.

Rooks' solution:
Around the perimeter of the property we blended lilacs, privet hedges, and climbing roses into a natural setting that includes an adjoining horse pasture. Rooks' solution for the perpetually wet area was to construct a pond, surround the banks with wildlife attracting plants and provide a delightful swimming opportunity for the family dog.
